What does selling a house involve?

Selling a home runs through 18 milestones and 85 steps: get the home ready, choose who runs the closing, set a price, gather the disclosures, list it, show it, take an offer, get through the inspection, appraisal, title work and the buyer's loan, then close and hand over the keys. Every step below has a full guide behind it.

Questions about the list

How many steps are there in selling a house?

18 milestones and 85 steps, in the pathway a Keighbor seller walks. Some will not apply to you, your state or your contract may add ones that are not here, and the order can change.

Why isn't my progress saved?

On purpose. A checklist that quietly remembers on one device and forgets on another has told you your work is gone. It holds for the visit, says so next to the count, and a room is the way to keep it.

Does the order matter?

It is the order most sales run in, and the guides are written in it. Real sales skip, repeat and reorder; use it as a map rather than a set of instructions.

Where do the lines under each step come from?

From each step's own guide, lifted from its 'you're done when' line. The guides are the same text a Keighbor seller reads inside their room, published free.

This is a general checklist, not advice about your sale

No two sales run the same way. Some of these steps won't apply to you, your state or your contract may add ones that aren't here, and the order can change. Use it as a map, not as a set of instructions. Keighbor is a software company, not a law firm, brokerage, or tax adviser. This is general information, not legal, tax, financial, or real estate advice about your sale. Your situation may differ. Before acting on a contract, disclosure, title, tax, or pricing question, ask an appropriately licensed professional in your state.
